Edinburgh to London by lawnmower

1959, A group of students have been remembering the time they made a 400-mile trip on a lawnmower that was built in Suffolk.  They drove from Edinburgh to London to test a Ransomes Matador produced in the old factory on Ipswich waterfront. The machine had a top speed of three miles an hour. The journey took four days and three nights and ended with a ceremony in Hyde Park

Edinburgh Zoo Gets Pandas

A historic agreement was signed today (10 January 2011) which will bring two giant pandas to Edinburgh Zoo, the first giant pandas to reside in the UK for 17 years. Witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, and Vice Premier of China, Li Keqiang, the agreement was signed at Lancaster House in London by Donald Emslie, chairman of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), which owns Edinburgh Zoo, and the Chinese Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA)

The giant pandas, Tian Tian and Yangguang, a breeding pair born in 2003, will be under the custodianship of RZSS at Edinburgh Zoo, a world leader in animal conservation. The project represents the culmination of five years of political and diplomatic negotiation at the highest level and it is anticipated the giant pandas will arrive in their new home as soon as a date is agreed.

Hearts 1 Hibs 0

Hearts win the first Edinburgh derby of 2011.  Kevin Kyle Scored in the 86 min to give the Jambos there forth derby win in a row.

"Kevin Kyle's dramatic late winner gave Hearts a deserved victory over Hibernian - the Tynecastle club's fourth Edinburgh derby win in a row.

Hearts had most of the possession in a first half full of effort and commitment but few opportunities.

Hibs' Francis Dickoh squandered a couple of chances after half time and Mark Brown had two fine saves to deny Hearts' Calum Elliot and Rudi Skacel.

But the goalkeeper could not stop Kyle's 86th-minute header.

Winning four derbies in a row for the first time since 1997 moved Hearts to within a point of second-placed Rangers and three behind leaders Celtic"  From BBC
