Mons Meg is a medieval bombard within the Castle, Mons Meg was built in 1449 on the orders of Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy and sent by him as a gift to King James II of Scotland in 1454

This giant medieval siege gun was presented to King Jams II in 1457 and used in war against the English. It was kept in the castle and used also for firing salutes. During one firing in 1558, the massive gun stone was found almost 2 miles away! it was last fired in 1681 wwhen its barrel burst.,
