Winter is here, it was afy cold this weekend. Here are some photos from Portobello Beach (ever walk on frozen sand? its different) and Holyrood Park – Arthur’s Seat and St Margaret’s Loch. Although it was a mere -6° we had nae snow in Auld Reekie this time.

Another shot of the Christmas Sky Flyer, Perhaps the last from Princes Street Gardens! As something peculiar happened this afternoon that left me somewhat bamboozled.
I was approached by two security staff, who clearly didn’t want to be there.
They Told me, ye cannae film here
Me – I’m not filming, it’s long exposure photography.
they had a somewhat confused look on their faces, after a few moments they responded with ‘Nah, you still cannae use a tripod, you must get permission from underbelly however can use the Christmas market area between the stalls’
They could not give me a reasonably answer why, that area is forbidden.
It’s all rather daft, as social media is full of similar shots – I myself have done this site 2013
it wont stop me – I’ll be back! 😉

What is it with traffic cones and statues? ah dinnae ken!
I blame Glasgow they started it with their Wellington Statue. 😉 (we love ya, honest)
But i’ve never understood the Scottish mentality of dunking traffic cones atop of statues, I know it’s also done around the rUK, but how about other European places, or are we just daft?

Fun fact, the Scott monument is the tallest monument to a writer in the world.
I love these auld places, I present to you – Queen Mary’s Bathhouse. This 16th century building can be found at the foot of the Royal Mile close to the Palace of Holyroodhouse and the Scottish Parliament.
Folklore says Mary Queen of Scots bathed here, only in sweet white wine! However it is unlikely that it was ever used as a bath house.
once attached to a wall encircling the King’s Privy Garden and it is thought to have been a summer house or even a tennis pavilion.

I love the reflection on lights reflecting off the wet sand.
taken with a iPhone, I am always impressed the quality of photo from these devices.
some, many are actually better than my ‘real’ camera, not yet a DSLR, but I’ll upgrade soon.
Just wish I was more interested way back, as I think my composition/quality has improved
looking back through old photos, I always say/think I could now do so much better.
The Edinburgh festivals have only but a few days left, hopefully you managed to get out and enjoy it.
amongst the plethora of street performers this guy plied his trade between the Old Town Venues. A bloke called Tony Roberts from Australia, who emulated the sensational escape acts of Harry Houdini.

Only Edinburgh during August is it perfectly normal to find people Eating fire, juggling machetes on a uni cycle, or perhaps sandwiched between beds of nails and or course wrapped in chains between a tennis racquet.
